Avgerini Gatsi-Songs from Smyrna & Istanbul: Variations & Improvisation

This seminar is addressed to singers and the musicians who want to work on their voice.
During the seminar we will get to know songs from Smyrna & Istanbul and more specificaly those from the pre-war school (when the songs were played in gramophones).
We will focus on technical issues related to the adaptation of ‘modern’ voice and speech to the older repertoire (vowels, placement, expression).
The morning sessions will include exercises/ games for the articulation.
We will practice creating
• variations on a basic melody,
• semi-improvised forms such as manes, amanes & balos.
