Intermediate-The participants should be at a reasonably good level on their respective instruments so as to be able to memorize and execute the proposed melodies, some of which are quite intricate and complex.

Eléonore Billy ( Swedish Nyckelharpa) and Kelly Thoma (Cretan Lyra) have been playing music together for the past 16 years in the ensemble Tokso (together with Anne Hytta and Sigrun Eng) , an innovative ensemble comprised of four women composers from France, Greece and Norway. Their focus is on an innovative approach to the traditions which have been their source of inspiration, through new compositions and improvisations.
Throughout the years of their collaboration Eléonore and Kelly have enjoyed playing Cretan melodies on the nyckelharpa and Swedish dances on the cretan lyra, with a natural flow and admiration for each other's traditions as well as an enthusiasm for the similarities and the beautiful way the two instruments melt into a unique common sound.
In this seminar Eléonore and Kelly will teach a workshop of Swedish and Cretan folk music, as well as new compositions influenced by these traditions.
The seminar will focus on learning melodies and arranging them for the ensemble of the students, therefore all instruments are accepted and musicians are encouraged to participate with any kind of instrument they play, as long as they are willing to learn also by heart and have a certain level of technique. The seminar will of course be of especial benefit to nyckelharpa and cretan lyra players.
