Participant Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Sight Reading: Not necessary
In this course we will dive deeper into into North Indian Raga music in the Kheyal style, by looking at Vilambit Ektaal, which is a long and slow unfolding of a rhythmic cycle which has 48 sub-beats likened to an epic, which enables one to improvise from different laya (tempo) perspectives.
We will work with longer compositions of ragas, working towards an understanding of how and at which point (in the rhythmic cycle) to enter the composition after flights of improvisation.
Together we will also focus on building creative and meaningful vistaars and taans (improvised phrases) for the relevant ragas.
Seminar will be in the Key of A, Bb for intermediate to advanced students. All instruments are welcome to participate in the seminar.
